Video of Vegas Activities

Check out the video to see my recommended Vegas activities: walking the strip, taking in the shows, the fountain at Bellagio, the canals at the Venetian, the Eiffel tower at Paris Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, people watching and hiking in the red rock canyons outside of Vegas. See below for photos and write-ups.

Vegas activities bellagioThe Fountain at Bellagio

This is the best free show in Vegas and a must see. The fountain dances to choreographed music every half-hour between 3:00pm and 8:00pm, and every 15 minutes from then until midnight. bellagio.com

Vegas activities paris vegasParis Las Vegas Hotel

At 460 feet above the ground, the observation deck on the Eiffel Tower at Paris hotel gives you a great view up and down the Las Vegas strip and across the desert. It’s also a fun place to get a different angle on the fountain at Bellagio. It’s also a very nice place to watch the sun go down. Day and night, it’s perfect for taking Vegas photos. Prices for adults are $10.50 in the day and $15.50 at night, but look for 2-for-1 coupons around town.

Vegas activities venetianVenetian

Even if you don`t pay to ride the gondolas, the Venetian is a relaxing, whimsical and beautiful hotel and casino to wander through. The canal winds outside and inside of the hotel through the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian which is done up to resemble a street in Venice. There are strolling entertainers throughout.

Vegas activities cesars palaceCaesars Palace

While you’re there, browse the Forum Shops that are built to look like a street in ancient Rome complete with fountains and statues. There’s a huge H&M and many high end stores.

Vegas activities blue man groupCatch a Show

You can’t go wrong with one of the several Cirque du Soleil shows. The Blue Man Group is also very popular. But my new favorite is the new Le Reve at the Wynn. Sure, they seem to have borrowed some moves from Cirque, but the result is a totally unique and exhilarating show that takes place in, on and above water. No, it’s not synchronized swimming. Think acrobats flying above then plunging several stories into the water.

vegas activities stripWalk the Strip

There’s something to see and do in every casino and hotel in Vegas. And it’s great to take it all in on a long stroll along the strip. It’s people watching at its best. The street performers and assortment of interesting characters add to the ambiance. You might even spot Elvis!

Vegas activities red rock canyonRed Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is a 50 minute drive from Vegas — and well worth it. The Calico Tanks trail (2.5 miles / 2hrs) takes you over colorful sandstone and ends at a small pocket of water and a great view of Las Vegas.

Vegas activities hoover damHoover Dam

Take a tour from Las Vegas or drive Las Vegas to Hoover Dam. It’s an easy and enjoyable 45 minute drive from Las Vegas to Hoover Dam. Read more about Hoover Dam and watch a video.

Vegas activities MGM Grand LionBig Cats

  • Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. Lions, Tigers, Leopards (and dolphins) at The Mirage ($).
  • MGM Grand Lion Habitat. See lions up close, for free — fun for kids of all ages.

Vegas activities shark reefShark Reef at Mandalay Bay

Great aquarium with plenty of sharks, rays, turtles, lion fish, a komodo dragon and other creatures of the sea. The glass tunnel where you`re surrounded by sharks is worth the $18 entrance fee.

Vegas activities new yorkNew York New York Rollercoaster

It’s not the best or most exciting roller coaster, but it passes right through the hotel which is unique.

Vegas activities gospel brunch house bluesHouse of Blues

Enjoy inspiring gospel performances and a large buffet at the House of Blues Gospel Brunch. Every Sunday at 10:00am and 1:00pm.
House of Blues is in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. houseofblues.com

Vegas activities freemont streetFremont Street

Fremont Street, about 6 miles from the strip, is great for a change of scenery. It`s a five-block pedestrian-only covered street with shops, casinos, restaurants and a free nightly light and sound show. It`s loud, colorful, free, fun entertainment and great for people watching.

Vegas activities casinoCasinos

The main reason many people come to Vegas is obviously to gamble. It’s not in my top 10 things to do in Vegas — but I’ll add it here because it doesn’t seem right to leave casinos and gambling off a list of Vegas activities.

Also fun and free: the Volcano at the Mirage — and it’s a Vegas icon. The show runs nightly, starting at 5:00 pm, then every hour on the hour until 11:00 pm.
